1 killed in Rutland County car crash

BRANDON, Vt. (NEWS10) — One person is dead following a car crash in Brandon, Vermont early Tuesday morning, according to Vermont State Police. The incident reportedly occurred near Forest Dale Road and Country Club Road.

Troopers responded to the scene just before 1 a.m. following the report of a single-car crash into a utility pole. Upon arrival, authorities said they found the driver — identified as 62-year-old David Fletcher of Brandon — unresponsive, with members of Green Mountain Power performing CPR.

An investigation reportedly determined that the car was traveling southbound on Forest Dale Road when it exited the west side of the roadway and hit a utility pole. The car then came to an uncontrolled rest off the side of the road.

Fletcher was reportedly taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead by medical staff. Authorities said alcohol is presumed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
