(KRON) — A new suspect was arrested in connection to the group smash-and-grab that looted thousands of dollars in merchandise from a San Jose jeweler in early September.
The San Jose Police Department previously arrested seven suspects in connection to the case. The latest suspect, 19-year-old Julian Gacutan of South San Francisco, was arrested by police in Oakland on Oct. 3. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for robbery.
SJPD Assistant Chief of Police Brian Shab issued a warning for potential robbers.
“I said it before and I’ll say it again: hiding behind a mask in a crowd of thugs will not shield you from accountability,” Shab said. “This additional arrest proves that your temporary flight from justice won’t stop us from finding you and arresting you.”
The brazen robbery happened at Kim Hung Jewelry at 1904 Aborn Road around 2:05 p.m. on Sept. 5. Police suspect that more than 10 people broke into the store by driving a car through the front door.
“Once inside, one of the suspects brandished a firearm at one adult male victim inside the business, while a second elderly adult male victim was violently assaulted,” SJPD said. “The suspects stole thousands of dollars worth of items from the store before fleeing the scene in multiple vehicles.”
The elderly man injured in the robbery was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
