The Arizona Cardinals have had a rocky start to the 2025 season and have now lost four games in a row following a close 31-27 battle with the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.

Arizona had to start backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the game, and he performed admirably with 320 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to stop the losing skid and gave the media plenty of fodder to run with heading into a tough Week 7 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Frustration may be starting to show from head coach Jonathan Gannon, who had a blunt response to what was a bit of an odd question, as one reporter asked him on Wednesday when he learned to remove some of the emotion from coaching.

“2007, when our quarterback went to jail,” Gannon said.

Gannon was a defensive quality control coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, and was obviously referencing Michael Vick, who went to jail for his role in leading a dogfighting ring.

He spent just one year in Atlanta, which was his first job in the NFL after he followed new head coach Bobby Petrino from Louisville, where he spent three years as a student assistant on his staff.

Gannon was just 24 at the time, so it was likely helpful for him to learn such a tough lesson so early into his coaching career, even though it was so devastating to the franchise in general.

It’s a wild response, and the audience was clearly taken aback, but it was certainly honest, and you can’t fault Gannon for that whatsoever.
