SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco Sheriff’s Office deputy has been fired after alleged sexual misconduct with an incarcerated person in a jail facility bathroom, officials confirmed to KRON4 Thursday. The alleged incident was reported to authorities on September 19.
The deputy had been working at County Jail #2, located at 425 Seventh Street, during the alleged encounter. The jail facility is the only one in San Francisco that houses women.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was immediately pulled away from having any contact with inmates following the report. “SFSO’s Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) opened a criminal investigation, and SFSO immediately notified the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST),” officials said.
San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto fired the deputy, who has not been publicly named, following a preliminary investigation.
“Serious misconduct like this has no place in our agency and will not be tolerated,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement sent to KRON4. “As law enforcement officers and public servants, we must be held to the highest moral and ethical standards.”
The Criminal Investigations Unit will bring the case to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office once their investigation is complete, officials said.
