Two Bay Area AI companies cut dozens of jobs

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Two companies associated with the Bay Area’s nascent artificial intelligence boom announced job cuts on Thursday.

Stryder Corp., the company behind Handshake AI, will cut dozens of Bay Area jobs, state filings indicate. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the employment development department, the company is cutting 96 jobs at its San Francisco office on Bush Street.

Handshake is a recruitment platform with a line of products for companies ranging from enterprise to small and medium businesses, to individual proprietors. The company’s Handshake AI network connects AI labs with expert talent for training large language models.

According to the WARN notice, all the job cuts took effect on Wednesday and were permanent.

BILL Operations layoffs

A separate state filing Thursday also indicated that AI-powered financial operations platform, BILL Operations, LLC, would be cutting 84 jobs in San Jose. BILL provides automated cloud-based software for small and midsize business financial operations.

The BILL job cuts, which were also described as permanent, will take effect on Dec. 15.
