For the first time in more than 20 years, the NBA will start its new season without LeBron James.

The Los Angeles Lakers star is rehabilitating from a nerve injury, and he won’t be on the court with his team next week on Opening Night.

In fact, according to the latest report, it may be at least a month until James is ready to play.

“LeBron is planning to take a ‘patient’ approach with his injury and is expected to return around mid-November,” per Shams Charania.

Patience is good, especially for someone at this age.

Of course, James would love to be with the Lakers next week and beyond, but he knows that he needs to be very careful.

If he rushes into a return, he could make his injury even worse, and he might end up losing the whole season.

Frankly, at his age, a bad injury could put an end to his historic career.

Therefore, it’s wise to let this return happen naturally and at the right pace.

Plus, it’s not like the Lakers are in bad hands.

This will give the team a chance to see what it’s like with Luka Doncic running the show on his own.

Even with this news, Lakers fans aren’t too afraid, and they like their odds, although they do want to see James back the moment that he’s healthy and ready.

The most important goal for the Lakers is to have James in good shape when the playoffs roll around.

So they are comfortable with him sitting out until November, and possibly beyond, as long as he can show up in the postseason down the road.
