ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A fire that killed five people in a Twiller Street home earlier this month has reportedly been deemed suspicious by the Albany Police Department. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The October 6 fire reportedly broke out on the first floor of 23 Twiller Street before spreading to the attic and neighboring homes. At least 45 firefighters responded to the scene.
All five people that were inside the home at the time were killed, including three children — a 3-year-old girl, 4-year-old boy and 6-year-old boy — as well as 52-year-old Erick DeCamp and 47-year-old Eric Peterson. Two of the child victims reportedly attended KIPP Tech Valley Primary School.
The Albany Police Department announced on Tuesday that a thorough preliminary investigation found that the fire was suspicious in nature. The case is reportedly being turned over to the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Demolition of the home was completed on October 8.
