Like many retired NBA legends, Carmelo Anthony is still paying close attention to the state of the league.
Because of that, he is in awe of what young Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is doing.
Anthony recently stated that he thinks he is the frontrunner for this year’s MVP and is going to reach a whole new level that will blow everyone away.
“I predict [Victor Wembanyama’s] MVP this year. I say that because every category that there is, he can lead this season. We’ve never seen Wemby. That’s MVP. I went to all the Infinity Stones. I went to Hakeem. I went to Garnett. We ain’t seen the alien, champ,” Anthony said.

As noted by Anthony, Wembanyama spent the summer working closely with basketball icons like Hakeen Olajuwon and Kevin Garnett.
Wembanyama was already wildly talented, but he picked up new ideas and strategies from these two.
He also spent time overseas, working closely with a group of monks and getting his mind in the right place.
He came back to the league prepared to step things up and enhance his game.
Wembanyama is the odds-on favorite for Defensive Player of the Year, but there is a growing chorus of fans and analysts who believe he could be MVP too.
His opening game of the season was a triumphant return and made a huge impression.
Now he just has to keep it up, and there is every reason to believe he will.
Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and other players won’t make the race for MVP easy, but Wembanyama’s name should absolutely be in the mix.
