ICE agents not patrolling public transportation: SFMTA

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Despite concerns,  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are not patrolling San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency vehicles, the SFMTA announced Saturday.

“We have received inquiries about the presence of ICE on Muni vehicles,” SFMTA stated on social media. “There are no credible reports that ICE agents are boarding Muni buses.”

The public can report ICE activity through the San Francisco Rapid Response Network.

ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrived at Coast Guard Island in Alameda on Thursday at the deployment of President Donald Trump. The agents were met with hundreds of protesters, who tried to block the only bridge connecting the island to Oakland.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said that Trump agreed to call off the “surge” of federal agents deployed to San Francisco in a phone conversation Wednesday night. Lurie, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reportedly all helped to convince Trump that San Francisco deserved more time to address crime using city and state law enforcement.
