(KRON) — The longtime location of one legendary San Francisco donut shop is closing after 70 years. Bob’s Donuts is closing its shop at 1621 Polk St. later this month, the business announced on social media.
The last day of business will be on Nov. 23. Bob’s Donuts will now shift its operations to its newer location at 1720 Polk St., which opened in February.
“It’s never easy to say goodbye,” Bob’s Donuts wrote in a social media post on Sunday.

The lengthy post worried a number of loyal Bob’s Donuts customers for a moment, thinking the entire business would shutter completely.
“The long post really scared me that you were leaving forever! So glad you’re just moving a little way away. 🙏 Still, thank you for sharing the heartfelt history of this location,” one commenter wrote in response to the post.
“I’ll miss the vibe and familiarity of the old space but the new location is so nice! Congratulations Aya and Don!” another comment said.
The shuttering of the Polk Street shop was in the works for more than a year after Bob’s Donuts and the building’s landlord failed to reach an agreement on a lease renewal, KRON4 reported in June of 2024.
Opened in 1953, Bob’s Donuts is on the city’s Legacy Business Registry, which is a list of San Francisco small businesses that serve as an “important step in maintaining a city’s cultural identity.”
For years, the 1621 Polk St. location was known for being open 24/7, something not very common in San Francisco. Bob’s Donuts has two other locations: 601 Baker St. in San Francisco and 252 Almonte Blvd. in Mill Valley.
“Although this is a bittersweet goodbye, we’re grateful to continue to be part of this special community at our new location at 1720 Polk St. Thank you to everyone for the continued support throughout our journey, and we’re excited to see you at our new store,” Bob’s Donuts wrote.
