OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A driver in Oakland suffered a head injury Friday morning after a road rage shooting on Interstate 80, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP responded to the freeway shooting at 5:45 a.m. on the eastbound I-80 to southbound I-880 transition ramp. Officers found a victim who sustained a shrapnel wound to the head, authorities said. The victim was conscious and able to talk to arriving officers before being transported to an area hospital.
CHP confirmed to KRON4 that a road rage incident between the victim and suspect led to the shooting. No suspect information has been released by law enforcement, and no arrests have been announced.
The connector ramp was shut down as authorities investigated the incident and reopened at 9:41 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP tipline at 707-917-4491.
Friday’s incident comes after a separate East Bay freeway shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon on Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel. Two vehicles were struck by gunfire in that shooting, with no reported injuries. The suspected gunman was arrested on the highway near Walnut Creek, CHP said.
