(KRON) — An Oakland man was arrested for Thursday’s shooting on Highway 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspect, 57-year-old Carlos Ray Thomas, allegedly shot at multiple cars while driving on Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel at about 3:45 p.m. He was taken into custody after he crashed his car into a center divider while driving southbound on Interstate 680 near Walnut Creek.
“Responding officers learned that a victim’s vehicle had been struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle,” CHP said. “The victim was uninjured and stopped near the scene. Two additional victims contacted CHP after arriving at their homes to report that their vehicles had also been struck by gunfire.”

Following the crash, Thomas got out of his car and attempted to run from the scene but officers chased him down, CHP said. Investigators also found and seized a gun during the arrest.
All eastbound lanes of Highway 24 were diverted to Highway 13 at 4:30 p.m. as authorities investigated the shooting. During the investigation, officers found a stray kitten in the Caldecott Tunnel, which was later adopted by a CHP officer’s family, CHP told KRON4. The lanes were reopened at 7 p.m.
Thomas was booked into Santa Rita jail for multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and shooting from a vehicle.
