ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The New York State Police is currently investigating two serious crashes that happened on I-787 and the Thruway in Albany on Sunday morning. The crash on I-787 has resulted in a fatality, said New York State Police.
The crash on I-787 northbound happened around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. A wrong-way driver reportedly crashed head-on with another car near Exit 2. The driver of the northbound car sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on scene. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Albany Medical Center.
All I-787 northbound lanes are currently closed between the Thruway and Exit 3 for reconstruction of the crash. Those lanes are anticipated to reopen around noon.
Another serious crash on the Thruway in Albany caused the Exit 6a off-ramp onto I-787 southbound to close, said State Police. Stick with NEWS10 as more information becomes available.
