San Francisco burrito staple named on Michelin Guide

(KRON) — If you are visiting San Francisco or know someone who is, chances are you have recommended this Mexican restaurant on 25th and Mission. In the opinion of many locals and visitors, La Taqueria is home to the best burrito in the city.

That notion may have been validated even further by those who share that opinion (sorry, El Farolito stans.)

La Taqueria was named in the Michelin Guide 2025, the restaurant announced this week in a social media post.

“AMIGOS! We’re SO honored to be part of the MICHELIN Guide 2025. This recognition belongs to every hand that’s worked in our kitchen, every guest who’s stood in line, and every family who’s shared our food across generaciones!” the post reads. “From the Mission District to the MICHELIN Guide we’re proud to keep representing Mexican flavor and tradition in San Francisco.

“Thank you to our community for the love and support through the years. We do this with pride, with heart, and with México in our soul!”

The burrito spot, which opened back in 1973 in San Francisco’s Mission District, almost always garners long lines. It’s not often that you don’t see a long line being wrapped across the block of La Taqueria.

A fan of La Taqueria commented on the Instagram post of the Michelin announcement.

“Amazing,” the fan wrote. “Though I’m not excited about even longer lines.”

La Taqueria responded, “don’t worry they’re not gonna get any longer than they already are!”

This isn’t La Taqueria owner Miguel Jara’s first major recognition. The 83-year-old chef had previously been a winner of a James Beard award.

In 2014, La Taqueria was named America’s Best Burrito by FiveThirtyEight.

La Taquiera, located at 2889 Mission St., is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Sundays.
