Albany man arrested after assault with hammer

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– An Albany man is facing multiple charges after reportedly hitting another person with a hammer. According to the Albany Police Department, 42-year-old Fares Saeed is accused of assaulting another man outside 219 South Pearl Street on Sunday.

Police said they responded to a call for a fight around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found a 31-year-old victim with an injury to his eye.

Officers said the victim and Saeed got into a fight outside of Miguel’s Deli and Grocery at the corner of South Ferry and South Pearl Streets. During the fight, Saeed allegedly hit the victim with a hammer, causing an injury to the victim’s eye.

Saeed was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said the victim was treated on scene, but then transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
