ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany County District Attorney’s Office reported that Jason Wells of Albany was arraigned on an indictment in an arson case on Friday. Wells, 42, was charged with second-degree arson and third-degree criminal mischief.
The Albany Police and Fire Departments responded to a house fire on Second Street just before 6 a.m. on September 18. Detectives determined that seven people were sleeping in the home at the time.
The indictment against Wells alleges that he endangered the occupants by pouring liquid accelerant on the building’s porch. No injuries were reported in the incident, but the fire caused over $2,000 in damage to the residence’s front steps, front door and siding.
Wells was identified as a suspect during the ensuing investigation, resulting in him being arrested by Albany Police. He pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judge Roger McDonough on October 31 and was held at the Albany County Jail ahead of further proceedings.
