Is a strike possible as Minneapolis educators negotiate union contract?

Sahan Journal reports Minneapolis educators could strike as soon as November. “The Minneapolis Federation of Educators, which represents K-12 teachers, paraprofessionals and adult educators, announced that it would hold a strike authorization vote Oct. 23, 24 and 27, unless the union and district reach an agreement during the next mediation session on Oct. 21.”

KTTC writes a southern Minnesota diaper bank is asking the community for help as supplies runs low. “A group of retired nurses are using their time off to give back to the community by spending each Wednesday packing what some families need the most — diapers. … As the Family Resource Center continues to try to fill the need, its shelves are starting to become a little empty in the process.” The center is hosting a drive through October.

KSTP says students might notice Dinkytown looking a little brighter after the city of Minneapolis installed new lights as a safety initiative. “The ‘Dinky After Dark’ initiative was started to reduce crime by adding more light to the neighborhood. … The new LED pedestrian lights now line Dinkytown streets, aiming to make crosswalks brighter and neighbors safer.”

KARE 11 says one four-legged friend is helping first responders through stress. “Hennepin EMS has a new member of the team, helping staff through grief and the stress that comes in their line of work. … Rigsby, a four-month-old English Springer, is now on staff, able to help calm first responders.”
