The Dallas Mavericks did not start the season the way they wanted to on Wednesday night.

They were taken down at home 125-92 by Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio Spurs.

Following the defeat, Dallas big man Anthony Davis spoke to the press and assured everyone that they shouldn’t panic.

“It’s not doomsday ladies and gentlemen,” Davis said, via Noah Weber.

Davis stressed that point multiple times, making it clear that the Mavericks are just getting started and one bad game doesn’t mean the whole season is lost.

Of course, that’s true, but fans are still worried based on what they saw in Dallas’ first game.

The team lacked energy and cohesion, and they were having serious problems on both ends of the court.

Losing to the Spurs, especially with Wembanyama playing how he did, isn’t a huge surprise, but the margin of defeat and other on-court choices are what have fans so upset.

If the Mavericks play like this all year, their chances of making the postseason will be small.

For his part, Davis put up 22 points and 13 rebounds, leading his team in both categories.

He isn’t panicked and thinks the Mavericks can dust themselves off, move forward, and find their footing in the next match.

They expect better chemistry and more output from others, including rookie phenom Cooper Flagg, who produced 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Every player in Dallas wanted a big win on Wednesday, but they aren’t hanging their heads low because it didn’t happen.

Next up for the Mavericks are the Washington Wizards on Friday, followed by the Toronto Raptors and Oklahoma City Thunder.

They would love to return home on November 1 with a winning record.
