Antioch High School football game forfeited in disciplinary action

(KRON) — An incident allegedly involving Antioch High School football players resulted in disciplinary action being taken in the form of a forfeited game Thursday night, school officials said.

“It reflects our commitment to accountability, personal responsibility, and the values we expect all students to uphold,” wrote Antioch High School Principal John Jimno in a statement to KRON4. Jimno did not provide more details about the incident, citing legal reasons, but said it “involves a significant portion of the varsity football team.”

The Antioch Panthers were set to play against Brentwood’s Liberty High School Lions on Thursday night before the abrupt forfeiture.

“Athletics are a valuable and enriching part of the high school experience,” Jimno wrote, “but participating is a privilege that must be earned through both academic effort and personal integrity.” According to the principal’s statement, the game’s forfeiture only marks the “first step in ensuring that our Code of Conduct is upheld.”

The Panthers’ next game is scheduled for Nov. 8 against the Pittsburg High School Pirates. Following the forfeited game, Antioch’s season record sits at 7-2.
