CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A pedestrian was hit and killed in a residential area of Carlsbad Friday morning, and the driver was arrested after returning to the scene.
Carlsbad Police officers responded to 911 calls for a traffic collision at Tamarack Avenue and Skyline Road just before 11:30 a.m. Friday and found a pedestrian dead in the road, the police department reported.
According to police, the driver left the scene, but returned while police officers were still there and was arrested. Paul Hiniker, 57, of Carlsbad, was arrested for “leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.”
Police say he was going to be booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
The pedestrian’s identity will be released by the the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Carlsbad Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this case, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
