SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man was convicted after a trial by jury for a two-week series of arsons in February 2024 where he torched several cars, including two Tesla Model Ys and a Cadillac Escalade, prosecutors announced Friday.
Armando Salvador, 63, was convicted of eight counts of arson of another’s property and two counts of unlawfully causing a fire, according to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.
The first arson incidents started at 6 a.m. on Feb. 18, 2024, according to prosecutors. Salvador started the fiery spree at Campton Place where he set a Cadillac Escalade ablaze followed by five other vehicles in the area of Geary and O’Farrell streets.
One week later, prosecutors said Salvador lit two Tesla Model Ys on fire at the intersections of Mabini and Bonifacio streets, and Shipley Street and Fourth streets.
“These fires were so large that two other vehicles parked nearby were also burned,” said the DA’s office.
The total amount of damage caused was not disclosed.
Salvador was identified thanks to several videos collected by the San Francisco Fire Department through the Union Square Alliance and submitted by residents.
“This case demonstrates how public safety agencies working together with community partners can keep our neighborhoods safe for residents, workers, and visitors,” said SFDA Jenkins.
Salvador remains in custody where he awaits sentencing on Oct. 27.
“I would like to thank the San Francisco Fire Department for their swift response in putting out these fires before they caused additional damage,” added Assistant District Attorney En-Ta Tu.
