Albany woman arrested, victims identified in fatal I-787 crash

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany woman was arrested and the two victims were identified following a deadly single-car crash on I-787 in Albany on Sunday. Imahjai Sutherland, 25, was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

While investigating the other crash, troopers reportedly found a car off the road down an embankment of I-787 southbound near Exit 5 around 7 a.m. on Sunday. Three people were found with severe injuries, said State Police.

The two passengers, identified as Jamilla Tirado, 27, and Cepelynn Johnson, 25, both of Albany, were declared dead on scene. Sutherland was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers said they saw signs of intoxication in Sutherland and processed her on all charges upon being released from the hospital. She was arraigned in Albany City Court and placed in the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
