The 2025 NFL trade deadline came with some unexpected twists.

While most people assumed teams like the New York Jets would be sellers, not many people saw All-Pro defenders Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams being available.

On the other hand, some expected the New Orleans Saints to make multiple deals, and for Jets running back Breece Hall to also be on the move.

Analyst Peter Schrager recently said that not coming to pass is what surprised him most about the deadline.

“I thought more players were gonna be traded by the Saints yesterday. Everybody also thought Breece Hall was gonna be traded. The juice wasn’t worth the squeeze for what they were getting offered,” Schrager said.

With the Saints far from playoff contention, the fact that they held on to some of their veterans was head-scratching, to say the least.

As for Hall, reports said that the Kansas City Chiefs offered a fourth-round draft pick to the Jets, who were looking for a third-round selection.

Scharger said he believes New York’s decision not to trade him for anything less than that is because, if he leaves as a free agent, it will get a better compensatory pick.

That certainly makes sense, and it may be a decision that will come back to haunt the Chiefs if they fail to make the playoffs and get back to the Super Bowl.

As for the Jets, they got multiple first-round picks for Gardner and Williams, but given their long track record of organizational dysfunction, it’s hard to believe they will put those assets to good use.
