Free adoptions continue at Columbia-Greene Humane Society

HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -About a dozen pets have been adopted from Columbia-Greene Humane Society over the weekend. It marked the start of free adoption week, when approved adopters can bring home cats, dogs and small animals like pet rats for free.

The shelter is almost always at capacity and at any moment multiple dogs could have to be taken in. President Ron Perez started the week as a solution. “Having this program for this time of year is really good because it does slow down for us. So I think I’ve probably heard from most shelters that they’re mostly filled right now.”

“This gives them the opportunity to come in, meet with our staff and really find out what goes into having a pet; whatever your interest is and they’ll cover everything with you.” Perez wants potential adopters to know that pets are a big commitment and not forever free: vet bills, food and your time are some expenses.
