Popular cafe chain specializing in ube opening in South Bay, 5 more Bay Area cities

(KRON) — Ube lovers in Milpitas rejoice. The popular Cafe 86, specializing in drinks using the purple yam originating in the Philippines, is opening this weekend at 1822 Milmont Drive, the business announced in a social media post.

The grand opening will be held Saturday from 5 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The Milpitas location marks Cafe 86’s fifth in the Bay Area.

The Cafe 86 in Milpitas is located in a shopping plaza that includes 7-Eleven, De Los Altos Grill, Pho & Bun and Curry Pizza House. The Southern California-based cafe chain plans on opening four more locations in the Bay Area, according to its website.

  • San Ramon
  • Concord
  • Livermore

Cafe 86’s Bay Area locations currently open are in Vallejo, San Jose, Antioch and Union City.

The event is being accompanied by a live DJ to celebrate the festivities of the opening and pre-Halloween party. This fall, Cafe 86 is serving a limited-edition drink: Pumpkin Spice Ube Latte.

Cafe 86 was founded in 2014 in Chino Hills. It has since risen in popularity and has grown its fanbase with more than 80,000 Instagram followers.
