(KRON) — Broadcom is cutting nearly 250 Bay Area jobs, according to a recent state filing. The global technology and chipmaking company will be laying off 247 workers at its Palo Alto facility on Hillview Avenue, one building over from its headquarters in Stanford Research Park.
The job cuts, which were announced on a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Employment Development Department, will take effect on Dec. 19. All the job cuts are permanent.
Business Insider is reporting that the job cuts will impact staff working in sales, customer success, account management and solutions.
The cuts follow the company’s 2023 acquisition of software firm VMWare. Following that acquisition, Broadcom cut VMWare’s headcount by roughly half.
The latest job cuts come on the heels of an announcement that Broadcom would be partnering with OpenAI to build chips for custom AI accelerators.
