The Philadelphia Eagles are 4-2 this season and remain the defending Super Bowl champions, but dissatisfaction surrounds the team despite their solid standing.
The offense continues to underperform and reveal significant structural issues that have raised concerns about its ability to repeat as champions.
They rank near the bottom in yards per game and hold the second-highest percentage of drives ending in three-and-outs, numbers that don’t match the talent on their roster.
During a recent appearance on the Up & Adams show, analyst Dan Orlovsky outlined a clear path to improving the Eagles’ offense, starting with a stronger commitment to the run game.
“I would put Jalen under center a little bit more, and just try to get some of our run game going at the defense. They’re so shotgun-centric. Their run game is so side-to-side right now, and they’re not whooping people up the front like they did last year with Mekhi Becton and (Landon) Dickerson being fully healthy. Put him under center… I am not saying every snap. But let’s run the football at the defense in a little bit more and try to get away from negatives. No offense has more negatives in the NFL than Philly,” Orlovsky said.

He explained that their passing success depends heavily on creating one-on-one matchups on the outside, something that only happens when the defense is occupied by the run.
Orlovsky also criticized the Eagles for becoming too predictable out of shotgun formations, noting that defenders can already read whether it’s a run or pass based on Saquon Barkley’s alignment.
Mixing in counters and multiple plays from the same look would create doubt for opposing defenses and make the offense less predictable.
He stressed the need for more play-action, pointing out that it opens bigger opportunities in the passing game and strengthens protection.
The Eagles enter Week 7 with a roster featuring top-tier pass catchers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, elite running back Saquon Barkley, and former Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts.
Despite the talent, the offense hasn’t delivered the efficiency expected at this stage of the season.
