JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — With the start of high school football playoffs coming on Halloween night, there was bound to be a surprise somewhere in Section 2.
That surprise came on Knox Field in Johnstown – site of a Class C quarterfinal clash between Cobleskill-Richmondville, the No. 2 seed out of the West Division, and Hoosick Falls/Tamarac, the three-seed from the East.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac dominated Cobleskill-Richmondville – the 10th-ranked team in the state for Class C – from start to finish, en route to a 27-10 victory.
The win itself wasn’t necessarily eye-opening, considering Hoosick Falls/Tamarac lost to Cobleskill-Richmondville by just one point in the regular season. It was the degree in which the Wildcats controlled the game that really stood out.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac opened up a 14-0 halftime lead with rushing touchdowns from August Lee and Owen Hart in the first and second quarters.
After Cobleskill-Richmondville got on the board with a safety in the third stanza, the Wildcats responded with two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter – a 19-yard scoring strike from Hart to Gabe Toomajian and eight-yard Glenn Milliman run – to put the game away.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac racked up an impressive 221 yards on the ground, with 128 of those coming from Lee on 31 carries.
The Wildcats advance to next week’s semifinal round, where they’ll take on defending Class C section and state champion Schuylerville. That game is set to be played in Schuylerville on Friday and kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
It’s a tough way for Cobleskill-Richmondville to conclude what was a very promising season. The Bulldogs finish with a 7-2 overall record.
