(BCN) — A man was arrested Wednesday evening in San Jose for allegedly striking and killing a pedestrian with his car while driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 7:15 p.m., a 57-year-old San Jose resident was driving his Hyundai on the northbound transition ramp from Highway 87 to Interstate 280 when he lost control of his car and struck a man in his 40s who was standing on the right shoulder, CHP Officer Ross Lee said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Lee, the Hyundai driver was allegedly found to be driving under the influence and was arrested. The driver’s name was not immediately released.
The collision caused the ramp to be closed for about three hours as investigators studied the scene, Lee said.
