A 44-year-old CTA passenger has died after he left a moving Red Line train and made contact with the electrified third rail Tuesday morning in Chatham on the South Side.

Around 4:40 a.m. in the first block of West 79th Street he forced open the doors and left the train, Chicago police said.

After making contact with the third rail, the unidentified man was apparently electrocuted and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
