SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Temperatures will take on a slight warming trend into the weekend, but if you head to the coast, make sure to watch our for king tides, bigger surf and some coastal flooding.
Area of high pressure starts to build into the weekend and will give temperatures a nice bump into Sunday.Â
A ridge of high pressure is building over the region, bringing a noticeable bump in temperatures through Sunday. Expect highs in the low to mid-70s along the coast and low 80s inland across the valleys, perfect for outdoor plans or a day at the beach.
However, beachgoers should stay alert — King Tides are returning through Friday night, bringing larger surf and minor coastal flooding during morning high tides, especially between 8 and 9 a.m. Wave heights are expected to reach 4 to 6 feet, creating strong rip currents and rough conditions in the surf zone. Coastal Flood Advisories are in effect for all San Diego County beaches until late Friday night.
These are some of the highest and lowest tides the area experiences throughout the year and it is due to the stronger gravitational pull between the moon and Earth. It aligns with the timing of the biggest and brightest full moon of the year called the “Beaver Moon” which is also a supermoon.
Next week, a pattern switch up is indicating chances of rain but forecast models differ in timing and amounts. Rain could develop as early as Wednesday, with the window extending through next Sunday.
Even if the rain stays light or non-existent for San Diego, expect cooler, cloudier, and breezier conditions as the week goes on.
