NYSDOT invests $800M in 2026 road paving projects

LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State will be investing $800 million into statewide road resurfacing projects in 2026, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday. The funding reportedly represents the largest New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) paving investment in history.

NYSDOT will be leveraging the historic investment from the current state budget. The funding comes on top of the department’s initial, more-than-$32-billion Capital Plan.

According to the governor, the additional money will facilitate 185 paving projects across the state. The almost 2,150 lane miles of resurfaced roads will be in addition to the paving initiatives already scheduled in NYSDOT’s core road and bridge programs, leading to a total of over 250 pavement renewal projects and more than 4,000 lane miles in 2026.

“New Yorkers will be seeing crews out there like never before next year, rejuvenating highways, enhancing the safety of the traveling public, and laying a solid foundation for economic development across the Empire State,” Hochul said.

10 of the newly added 185 paving projects will take place in the Capital Region, costing over $40 million and totaling 164 lane miles of resurfaced roads. 13 projects will also take place in the Mid-Hudson region, 15 in the Mohawk Valley and 28 in the North Country.

You can look below for the details of each Capital Region paving project. All regional projects can be found on the Governor’s Office website.
