1. VSP to assist in search of missing Middlebury College student
Vermont State Police are joining the search for a missing Middlebury College student. Lia Smith, 21, was last seen around 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.
2. Construction has begun to a popular Lake George landmark for a major upgrade
A major upgrade is coming to a Lake George landmark more than a year after it was destroyed by a fire. This project is part of New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. State and local leaders gathered at Shepard Park to announce that they are breaking ground on a brand-new amphitheater.
3. Man pleads guilty to fatal 2024 Albany dog mauling
A Schenectady man pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Wednesday to a charge of criminally negligent homicide in connection with a 2024 dog mauling that killed 59-year-old James Provost. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Omar Daniels, 45, is facing a possible sentence of two to four years in prison.
4. Federal government shutdown could impact SNAP benefits in NY | NEWS10 ABC
As the federal government shutdown continues, the state estimates that nearly 3 million New Yorkers who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, may lose their benefits starting in November.
5. NYSDOT invests $800M in 2026 road paving projects
New York State will be investing $800 million into statewide road resurfacing projects in 2026, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday. The funding reportedly represents the largest New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) paving investment in history.
