2 arrested for Berkeley home invasion robberies

(BCN) — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a string of violent home invasion robberies and residential burglaries that targeted women across Berkeley between Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, police announced Friday.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the primary suspect, a convicted felon and his female accomplice were taken into custody Thursday after a coordinated operation in Hayward.
When officers attempted to stop the male suspect, he allegedly rammed several vehicles, drove toward an officer, and fled on foot before being apprehended. The female suspect was arrested nearby without incident, police said.

Investigators said the male suspect reportedly entered homes while victims were inside, sometimes threatening them and stealing personal belongings and vehicles. In one incident, he allegedly threatened to shoot a resident, Berkeley police noted.

Detectives linked the crimes through an escalating pattern and used Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to identify the suspects.

Search warrants at multiple locations led to the recovery of stolen property from at least two incidents, police said.

Both suspects were arrested for suspicions of home invasion robbery, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, residential burglary, and attempted carjacking.

No victims were physically injured, police said.
