Judge rules Trump’s top federal prosecutor in L.A. is ‘unlawfully serving’

A federal judge issued a split decision in response to a challenge over how the Trump administration installed Acting U.S. Atty. Bill Essayli as the region’s top prosecutor, declining to dismiss indictments he has overseen but finding that he was not lawfully appointed to his position.
