Suspect arrested in hit-and-run involving boy, 12, in El Cajon

EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities have arrested a person linked to a hit-and-run crash in El Cajon that injured a young boy.

Dani Korkis, 35, of Lakeside was arrested by police and booked into county jail on felony hit-and-run charges, the El Cajon Police Department said in a news release Friday.

The crash happened on Wednesday around 8 p.m. in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street. Officers who responded to the scene found a 12-year-old boy with major head trauma. Meanwhile, the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, authorities said.

Investigators were able to identify the vehicle as a white BMW X5 using evidence from the scene and used an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) and other databases to locate the precise vehicle.

Detectives found the suspect’s vehicle parked at a business in Lakeside which had damage consistent with the debris left at the scene of the collision, authorities said.

Meanwhile, they said the injured boy is still in the hospital in stable condition.
