Masked assailant allegedly stabbed two 18-year-olds in car, Stoneham Police report

An assailant in a mask and dark hoodie allegedly approached a car and stabbed the two young men inside late overnight, Stoneham Police stated Sunday.

At 1 a.m. Sunday, Stoneham Police stated officers responded to the Spring Street area in Wakefield on reports of a stabbing.

A preliminary investigation showed the attack appeared to begin in Stoneham, police said. A vehicle was stopped near an unknown intersection in Stoneham, the department said, when a masked person in a dark hoodie approached.

The assailant was armed with a knife and came to the passenger and driver in the car, police reported. The two young men in the car then drove away, passing into Wakefield before coming to a stop.

At the scene in Wakefield, responders found a gray Chevrolet Trax, and an ambulance transported two victims, both 18-year-old men, to an area hospital, Stoneham Police said.

The driver suffered “serious injuries” that do not appear to be life-threatening, the department said Sunday morning, and the passengers injuries were also believed to be non-life-threatening.

Investigators stated they “do not believe that there is any danger to the public” at this time.

An investigation into the stabbing remains active and ongoing by Stoneham Police detectives and Massachusetts State Police.
