BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Saratoga County has a new addition to the hazmat materials response vehicles fleet. County officials and members of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department (SSFD) celebrated the arrival of a new hazardous materials response truck on Wednesday at the county’s fire training facility.
SSFD will house the county’s new hazmat truck, which will be used countywide for fire department assistance, public works crews, and law enforcement. The new vehicle is equipped with containment and decontamination equipment, an on-board command area, advanced detection instruments, and more.
“This new Hazmat Truck provides the Saratoga County Hazmat team with the ability to carry the majority of equipment that may be needed for the Hazmat team to efficiently handle an incident and help keep our community and our neighboring communities safe,” Saratoga Springs Fire Department Assistant Chief Aaton Dyer said. “The success of this Hazmat Team is the result of the commitment and support from all of the County Agencies and Community Sponsors involved.”
Federal American Rescue Plan Act funds approved by the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors paid for the new vehicle. Board of Supervisors Chairman Phil Barrett of Clifton Park stated the new truck represents a major community safety investment.
“When hazardous materials are involved, every second matters,” Barrett said. “This vehicle ensures the Saratoga County Office of Emergency Management, Saratoga Springs Fire Department, and the countywide Hazmat team have the right equipment to respond quickly and effectively to protect the public.”
