2 men killed in crane collapse in Everett

Two men died when a crane collapsed at a worksite in Everett.

“Our hearts go out to both victims, both young men, may they rest in eternal peace,” Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria said at the site of the tragedy Friday.

The unidentified men were working as subcontractors at a jobsite at the Rover Street marine dock in Everett when a crane collapsed. The site is the former Exxon terminal on the Mystic River.

The incident is under investigation by the Everett Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

“We are devastated to learn that two individuals employed by a subcontractor have died following a horrific accident at one of our job sites,” Robert Delhome, the CEO of Charter Contracting, which managed the site, wrote in a statement. “We are actively coordinating with all relevant public safety officials to understand why and how this happened. We’re grateful for the quick response from the police and EMS, and extend our deepest sympathies to anyone affected by this tragedy.”

DeMaria wrote in a prepared statement that the Everett “community mourns alongside all those affected by this tragedy.”

“The City will continue to fully support and cooperate with the ongoing investigation into this devastating incident,” he added.
