The Philadelphia Eagles entered 2025 riding momentum from last year’s Super Bowl victory, but their offense has struggled to match the elite production of 2024.

Currently sitting at 4-2, the team faces growing concerns about efficiency and execution following their recent loss to the New York Giants.

During a recent segment of ESPN NFL Live, analyst Dan Orlovsky identified specific adjustments Philadelphia must make to restore its offensive identity.

He emphasized the need for better run game execution and more strategic personnel usage in critical situations.

“47 negative plays for this offense this year, that leads the NFL by a significant margin. They gotta run it better. I think two things I’d like to see in their run game. No. 1 would be, unsurprisingly, for me, I’d like to see Jalen Hurts a little bit under center. I’m not saying you have to completely revamp the offense. Two, I think a lot of their run game has been a little bit too side-to-side for me. I’d like to just get Saquon going downhill. I think that would help their offensive line,” Orlovsky said.

Philadelphia’s heavy reliance on shotgun formations has made its offensive schemes increasingly predictable, allowing defenses to anticipate key plays.

The running game lacks explosiveness, while the passing attack has failed to establish a consistent rhythm.

Even right tackle Lane Johnson acknowledged the offense can become predictable, a problem that limits sustained drives and scoring opportunities.

The Eagles possess elite talent across their roster, with stars like Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith supported by a solid offensive line.

Despite these weapons, the unit has looked surprisingly average through six games.

Barkley is averaging nearly 71 fewer rushing yards per game compared to his historic 2024 campaign, dropping from 125.31 to 54.16 yards per contest.

This marks the first season with Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator following Kellen Moore’s departure to New Orleans.

Early indications suggest Patullo favors a simpler, more conservative approach, which may explain the noticeable dip in production.

Philadelphia must diversify its schemes and improve execution to prevent defenses from exploiting their one-dimensional tendencies moving forward.
