Niskayuna baseball awarded grant to enhance fields

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Niskayuna town officials secured $150,000 in funding to upgrade the baseball fields at Blatnick Park. They plan on enhancing playing surfaces, fixing drainage issues, and making the park more accessible and safer for the youth and community leagues that use it throughout the year.

Over 400 kids participate in the program. Phil Sidoti, the president of Niskayuna Baseball, said all will benefit from the funding.

“As long as I’ve been here, we’ve always talked about what can we do to make these fields better for the players and better for our community, and this grant is a tremendous opportunity for us to invest in the fields and to make this a better place for our kids,” he said.

Sidoti said 133 games were canceled last year due to funding. They hope this year will be better with the planned improvements to the drainage system.
