Oceanside seeks public input on Inland Rail Trail’s final route

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The City of Oceanside is asking for public feedback on its preferred route for the final stretch of the Inland Rail Trail — a 21-mile multi-use path designed to connect Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido along the SPRINTER rail line.

Once complete, the Inland Rail Trail will link inland communities to the coast, providing safer and more accessible routes to jobs, housing, recreation, and the beach. The final Oceanside segment covers about 7.4 miles and is the last piece needed to complete the corridor.

Earlier this year, the city hosted several public engagement events, including an online survey, pop-up outreach and a community open house. More than 1,000 residents, business owners and community members shared input on three proposed route options.

City officials said that feedback helped to identify a preferred alignment, which is now being shared with the public for review and comment. From now until Dec. 5, residents can explore the draft design concepts and feasibility study, as well as provide feedback through a final online survey available here.

“Community input has been an important part of this planning process and the public has shared that it is a priority to enhance mobility, connect neighborhoods, and provide safe, sustainable transportation options for residents and visitors alike,” said Luis Cardenas, project manager for the Oceanside Inland Rail Trail. “We’re looking forward to receiving comments through the survey to help us refine the preferred alignment and move the project forward.”

The Inland Rail Trail is part of a regional effort to expand active transportation options across North County, offering an alternative to driving and supporting the region’s climate and mobility goals.
