Oilers set sign centre Jack Roslovic to one-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers are adding an experienced depth centre to the mix.

Jack Roslovic has signed with the Oilers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first reported on Wednesday.

The Oilers announced that Roslovic had agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.

The 28-year-old was among the top remaining unsigned players on the market. Roslovic scored 22 goals and added 17 assists in 81 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season.

But the nine-year NHL veteran struggled to find a consistent role in the Hurricanes’ playoff lineup, which hurt his stock heading into free agency.

The deal comes two days after the Oilers signed superstar Connor McDavid to a two-year, $25 million extension.

McDavid seemingly agreed to a lower average annual value to give his team more room under the salary cap to build around him. It didn’t take the Oilers long to start doing exactly that.

They also signed defenceman Mattias Ekholm to a three-year, $12 million extension on Wednesday.

Roslovic has appeared in 526 career games split between the Winnipeg Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Hurricanes, accumulating 102 goals and 260 points. He was selected 25th overall by the Jets in 2015.
