Pedestrian hit and killed by driver in Union City

UNION CITY – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Wednesday morning in Union City, police said.

The fatal collision, the city’s fourth of the year, happened around 6:25 a.m. at the intersection of Decoto Road and Royal Ann Drive, according to the Union City Police Department.

Police said the pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, was struck while crossing Decoto Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to police.

The driver stopped and the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. Drug or alcohol impairment, police added, did not appear to play a role in the collision.

Southbound Decoto Road was closed for an investigation and reopened around noon.
