OAKLAND – A person was hit by a BART train Wednesday in Oakland, officials said.

The incident happened around 5:40 p.m. at the 12th Street Oakland City Center Station, according to BART spokesperson Chris Filippi.

“Someone entered the trackway for an unknown reason and was contacted by a train,” Filippi said in a recorded message. “The person was removed alive from the trackway and taken to a hospital.”

An update on the person’s condition was not available.

Following the incident, trains running in the Antioch and Richmond directions did not make stops at the station. Normal service resumed around 6:50 p.m., Filippi said.
