Person struck by train at BART 12th Street Station in Oakland

(KRON) — Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) said a person was struck by a train during rush hour at its 12th Street Oakland City Center station Wednesday evening after entering the trackway.

The condition of the person is not yet known.

BART made the announcement at 5:50 p.m. in a social media post about a “major medical emergency.”

BART previously said that trains are not currently stopping at the 12th Street station and that the emergency has halted service in the Antioch and Richmond directions.

BART updated less than an hour later that one trackway is open that will allow trains to go through. Regular train service resumed at 12th Street station just before 6:45 p.m.

It is not yet clear what led to the incident.

This story will be updated.
