Person wounded in Oakland freeway shooting, second in two days

OAKLAND — A person was wounded in a freeway shooting Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

It was the second Oakland freeway shooting in two days.

According to initial reports, Friday’s shooting happened about 6:15 a.m.  on the connector from eastbound I-80 to southbound I-880, the CHP said.

The wounded driver was able to pull their vehicle over to the shoulder. They were taken by ambulance to a hospital but their condition was not known.

The shooter and their vehicle were being sought.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation.

The roadway was closed while the CHP investigated.

Thursday’s shooting that led to an arrest happened about 3:45 p.m. on eastbound Highway 24 west of Old Tunnel Road.

Two vehicles were struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle, but the occupants were not hurt, the CHP said. A possible motive for the shootings has not been released.

Multiple witnesses called the CHP with a description of the suspect’s vehicle and a 57-year-old Oakland man was arrested about 4:08 p.m.  after his vehicle crashed  in the center divide on southbound I-680 near Olympic Boulevard in Walnut Creek.
