Ever since he arrived in the Bay Area, Christian McCaffrey has been the best weapon in the National Football League.
No team relies more on any skill player than the San Francisco 49ers on the former Carolina Panthers star.
And with Ricky Pearsall, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and even Brock Purdy missing time this season, they’ve only had to lean on him even more.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to find out that McCaffrey is currently the leader in targets among running backs this season (52).
However, the fact that he has 20 more targets than the second player on that list (De’Von Achane, 32) is remarkable.

McCaffrey has better hands than some of the best wide receivers in the league.
On top of being a tackle-breaking machine with his runs out of the backfield, he’s also a perennial threat to line up all over the offense and turn screen passes into big gains.
McCaffrey is Kyle Shanahan’s offense’s focal point, and it’s not even close.
He’s the most versatile offensive weapon in the game.
Unfortunately, that may have also contributed to his health issues.
He’s always been prone to injuries, and the big usage clearly doesn’t do much to help.
McCaffrey barely played at all last season with multiple ailments, and some thought he would struggle to return to his usual level this season if he could return at all.
Through the first six weeks of the season, it’s safe to say that he’s already proven the doubters wrong.
