San Jose Sharks apologize after pro-ICE message appears during Hispanic Heritage Night

(KRON) — The San Jose Sharks are issuing an apology after a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) message appeared on their jumbotron during Hispanic Heritage Night at SAP Center.

The message, which showed up Saturday during the first intermission of the Sharks’ game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Los Tiburones Night, read, “SJ SHARKS FANS LOVE ICE!! GET’EM BOYZ!”

The SJ Sharks have issued a statement, saying, “During the first intermission of tonight’s game, an offensively worded message which had been externally submitted was inadvertently displayed on the in-arena scoreboard. Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not meet our organization’s values, was not detected during our standard review process. The Sharks organization sincerely apologizes for this oversight, and we are actively working to determine the origin of the message.”

Users on X reacted to a video of the incident, with comments ranging from “Yikes.” to “how was this not checked??”
