Santa Rosa police arrest suspects in Condor Club manager’s killing

Santa Rosa police have arrested a man and woman from Dublin in the shooting death of Mark Calcagni, the longtime San Francisco nightclub manager found dead along Brookwood Avenue earlier this month.

Detectives on Saturday said Richard Lund, 43, and Asia Morton, 25, were taken into custody after weeks of tracking leads, reviewing surveillance footage and piecing together digital evidence. Investigators said they believe Lund shot Calcagni outside his home in the early morning hours of Oct. 3 and that Morton his girlfriend helped plan the attack.

Both once worked at San Francisco’s Condor Club, where Calcagni served as general manager. The club, a North Beach landmark known as the nation’s first topless bar, had been Calcagni’s professional home for years.

Police said Lund was arrested Friday at the Dublin apartment he shared with Morton. Morton was detained soon after at San Francisco International Airport, where she had just landed from overseas travel. A search of their apartment later turned up additional evidence, officials said, but did not offer details.

Detectives have not identified a motive but said the arrests mark a major step in solving a killing that initially appeared to have few clues.

Calcagni, 60, was discovered lying in the road near the Sonoma County Fairgrounds early Oct. 3. He had been shot, police said. The case marked Santa Rosa’s 11th homicide of the year.
